APQP is advance product quality planning process (APQPP). APQP is a framework of procedures and techniques used to develop products in industry, particularly in the automotive industry.

Phase I : Product Planning and Program Definition
- Receipt of RFQ (Receipt of drawing along with spec drawing/ref. sample)
- Formation of CFT
- Review of Drawing / Feasibility Review and Risk Assessment
- Resource planning
- Past Problem History study
- Initial Kick Off meeting,
- Preparation of Part Information sheet (PIS)/ Initial Bill of material (BOM)
- Received LOI/Go ahead/Spec Meeting.
- Master List of Drawing/Std.
- Receiving CAD data from customer & other input for product design/development.
- Preparation of APQP Timing Plan.
- Prepare Preliminary Process Flow Chart

- Taking supplier input on child part development feasibility
- Prepare Supplier PPAP requirement as per QA.

Phase-2:-Product Design and Development
- Design/Drawing & Data
- Engineering specification
- Material Specification
- BOM preparation
- ECN record & Requirement
- Decision on make & Buy
- Design of Tooling, Fixtures and other Requirements
- Preparation of inspection standard for brought out part
- Procurement of child part for proto type development
- Identification of new equipment requirement/ New tooling requirement/ New facilities/ Gauge/test equipments
- Acquiring all required new equipment/child part/gauges, etc
- Prepare proto type control plan
- Manufacturing of Tooling, Fixtures and other Requirements *
- Calibration of Tooling, Fixtures and other Requirements
- Make Trial /Event samples as per requirement (Customer/Internal)
- Part dispatch to customer
- Review product design and development plan
- Team feasibility commitment
- Operator & staff training
- Management presentation and support
Phase-3:-Process Design and Development
- Plant setup.
- Prepare new plant/Line layout
- Government clearance & approval for plant setup
- Land acquisition
- Plant construction/Line construction
- Plant audit & handover
- Preparation of Process flow chart
- Floor plan layout
- Prepare Preliminary Process PFMEA
- Review Preliminary Process PFMEA.
- Prepare Prelaunch Control Plan /PCS/PQCT
- Review Prelaunch Control Plan /PCS/PQCT
- Prepare WI/Inspection standards
- Make Trial /Event samples as per requirement (Customer/Internal)
- Make Trial /Event samples evaluation
- Prepare Operation Process Instruction./Supervisor Training for change point
- Verify the outputs against Preliminary Control Plan (Initial Event Sample Trial)
- MSA/SPC
- Packaging Standard (Customer Defined)
- Review product & process quality system review
Phase-4:-Product & Process Validation
- Arranging material for trial run
- Arranging raw material & BOP
- Setup approval of tool
- Sample inspection as per drawing & control plan
- Sample submission & report submission to customer
- Feedback from customer
- Correction in tool (If required)
- Sample & ISIR report
- Production Trial run & corrective action (PPVT trial)
- PPAP preparation and submission to customer
- Packing evaluation
- MSA study
- SPC study for critical dimensions
- Review of FMEA
- Prepare & Review Production Control Plan
- Review
Phase-5:-Production Launch, Assessment, and Improvement
- Conduct PSO (Part submission Order) as per PQCT/Control Plan
- PPAP approval from Customer
- Forward product to customer through Initial product control process.
- Feedback Analysis and corrective action
- Sign off Part Submission Warrant (PSW) with Customer
- Review of the above activity until all points are not closed
APQP Timeline or APQP Matrix
For every project there will be project life. Start & end time will be fixed for any project.
Let’s say project life is 2 years. In these 2 years major events will be planned. These events are added into APQP timeline.
Each activity is measured on plan vs actual graph.
